Start here: get ready to go underground

The Miner Was Replaced is DLC for The Farmer Was Replaced, so you need the base game on Steam. As of October 15, 2026, its planned release is November 2, 2026. Prepare by getting comfortable with a short repeatable program, a bounded route and a clear way to inspect a mistake.

What you need to play

The DLC adds underground programming challenges to the existing game. It is not a separate standalone game. The official listing names Windows and macOS; check the store requirements for your machine before purchasing.

The November 2 date is a planned release date. There is no confirmed launch hour or DLC price in the information used here. Buying the base game or wishlisting the DLC does not by itself grant early access.

The base game is required. Check the current DLC listing before treating the underground content as playable; preparation remains useful while access is unavailable.
  1. Check that the Steam title you own is The Farmer Was Replaced.
  2. Open the DLC store page to check its current availability and system requirements.
  3. Use the base game to prepare while the DLC is unavailable. A finished farm, a particular resource stockpile or a specific unlock is not established here as a DLC requirement.

A playtest request, if offered by Steam, is a separate access route. An application is not an invitation or a guarantee of access.

A practical preparation path

Start with the failure you are most likely to encounter, then stop when you can explain a small run without guessing.

  1. Understand the language boundary. Read why Python-shaped code can fail. Check that the idea uses features available in your current game.
  2. Make one job finish. Use the four-step stopping example to separate an attempted action from completed work.
  3. Track a short route. Walk the 4×4 route exercise and explain why its last move stops.
  4. Read a failure. In the error guide, follow the first incorrect state rather than changing several lines at once.

You do not need to master a general Python course first. The base game introduces programming concepts through progression; the useful goal is to predict what your own short program will do.

Choose the next underground task

“I want to know what mining looks like.”
Take the underground preview for the announced resources, mushrooms, Minesweeper and ruins.
“Sorting is unfamiliar.”
Try compare and swap with four tokens. It teaches the reasoning without pretending to know the final mushroom rule.
“I guess in Minesweeper.”
Use three local clue examples to distinguish a forced move from an unknown one.
“My code repeats or forgets what happened.”
Pair stopping rules with a small state record.

When you first enter the DLC

Read the actual mining unlock and command descriptions available in your game before adapting a farm routine. Underground movement, damage, action results and puzzle rules need their own checks.

For a first attempt, choose a small job with a visible end: a short route, one known target or one puzzle observation. Keep a copy of the last working program. If the next action depends on an unknown rule, inspect that rule before running a larger loop.

This preparation path does not give a verified mining unlock or a first-extraction walkthrough. Those require the released game’s instructions and an observed successful run.
